Hello, morning, good day, tally-ho, pip pip and other such greetings. We’re slowly grinding 2010 into gear by now, and this Friday is this year’s first proper EPIC release day. Thankfully I’ve had review dibs on the one major game I’ve been looking forward to for a long time now, so no chance Jay can snaffle around and steal it from under my nose!
That game is, of course,
Mass Effect 2. The follow-on from BioWare’s really rather decent original, of which I was
pretty positive back in t’day. This time we’re promised a more action-packed and fluid combat system with a selection of immensely powered weapons to blow everything in your radius about twenty miles into the sky. Possibly most exciting about the whole show is that the game will take your save from the original (what – you deleted it? Ugh!) and base the story on the decisions you made, as well as letting you carry on with the character you created the first time around. I seem to recall that mine was some rather gruff lady who bore a striking similarity to a really pissed-off Sinead O’Connor... interesting.
Of course, while this is all happening there’s other things out there to buy. If you’re a PS3 owner feeling a little left out of the Mass Effect 2 love-in,
MAG (Massive Action Game) will allow you to wallow in sorrow with up to 255 other players (no, seriously, that’s correct) in an enormous multiplayer first-person shooter scuffle. I’ve not tried the beta that’s been going on for a while, but I readily admit that the sheer scale of squad-based battling where you are divided into platoons sounds rather fun indeed.
So, that’s PC and 360 sorted with Mass Effect 2, the PS3 sorted with MAG – how’s about Nintendo’s little box of tricks? Er... well, if you like 2D fighters then you’re in luck!
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Ultimate All Stars pits familiar Street Fighter characters against a selection of other video game characters like Mega Man and Viewtiful Joe (remember him!) in the usual knuckle-dusting battling. Can’t say that I am terribly enthused myself, but if you’re into the genre it could be an interesting addition to your collection.
Oh, while I am at it, last week I promised you a Magic Roundabout game. Seems that this has dropped off the radar for the time being, but it does exist as this curiously French
video shows! I grew up watching Magic Roundabout mixed with Monty Python (Jay thus finally understands why I turned out this way), and as much as it looks a bit rubbish and all, I can’t help but giggle at the prospect of snaffling around as Dougal. Oh, and if you’re reading this Mum, I still haven’t gotten over you taking my Dougal toy away when I was a kid. Yes, yes, in retrospect we all found that he was basically no more than a knackered bunch of stuffing packed into what looked like an over-stretched pair of tights, but still.
:-(.
Same time next week, folks!
