"Ah, BioShock 2. Hype metre at breaking point!"
"Or, you could go for monkeys in balls. Your call."
Yup, it’s Monday all over again chaps. This morning was particularly Monday-ish as, having left home nice and early in an attempt to roll into the office on a high note I was presented not only with it trying to snow (I shouted at the weather and it quickly stopped, so no worries there) but also with the Traffic Jam of Doom, which led to me actually arriving 20 minutes later than usual. Goes to show really; you put the effort in, yet Monday always finds a way to scupper you. Well, Monday and a whole host of inept drivers who probably slammed on their brakes at the first hint of a snowflake on their windscreen.

RAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH.

Anyhow, no time to be glum this week as one of my most-anticipated titles of the year comes out tomorrow! The last time we were graced by BioShock I was so excited that the completion of my purchase of my flat became an annoying side issue to the demo being released, and this time around I’ve somehow managed to dodge pretty much every potential spoiler. I have no idea how it begins! I have no idea what will happen! I have no idea where I am going to store my inappropriately large limited edition box set! Expect our thoughts on BioShock 2 pretty pronto if last time is anything to go by; I managed to sit through the entire game in two 7-hour chunks over one weekend back in 2007.

Given that this is out on Tuesday then the theory goes that we will have all had time to complete it by Friday, when the main chunk of games hit the shops. Having looked at them, though, chances are you may wish to extend your BioShock play through to next Friday when the line-up looks immeasurably stronger. Still, fans of monkeys, balls and balance boards may wish to purchase Super Monkey Ball: Step and Roll, which obviously fuses the Wii balance board with SEGA’s cheeky little group of simians as they roll around a series of mazes collecting bananas and such.

If you’re into your RPG’s then this week’s not too bad, with Star Ocean 3: The Last Hope taking a bow on the PS3. I initially thought this had come out last week but upon checking realised I was confusing matters with Endless Ocean 2; no, this one’s a JRPG set in the aftermath of World War 3 and sees humanity voyaging into space to try and find a new home. If sci-fi is your bag and you’re an MMO kind of person then this week also sees the release of the vanilla edition of Star Trek Online, of which the special edition was released this past Friday.

The DS sees a relative avalanche of new stuff this Friday to boot, although nothing really jumps off the list as a must-buy. If you’re interested, the aforementioned quartet is Phantasy Star Zero, Bleach: The Third Phantom, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and Animal Kororo, that latter of which seems to be some kind of animal-based puzzle title. Hmm.

However, to sign off on a good note today, let’s take a moment to consider that SEGA have just announced Sonic 4, which is the first big-console 2D Sonic game since.. 1994? In any case, fans have been crying out for it for a long, long time, so hopefully it’ll come up trumps and give the little blue fella a much-needed shot in the arm.
